Guide to Blackjack
Blackjack is one of the most popular games played at casinos. This game involves using cards and roughly six players gather at the blackjack table to play. The dealer uses six or eight decks of cards, which are shuffled and placed in a box called the ‘Shoe’. During a shoe game, players are given cards face up and they cannot touch their cards. In the case of hand-held blackjack games, cards are placed face down and players can handle their cards during the game.
This game is played against the dealer and the player has to reach a card count of 21 or get closer to 21 without exceeding this number to win. Cards have assigned values, the face cards which are Kings, Queens and Jacks carry 10 points, Aces are either 1 or 11 and other cards of the deck are represented by their number. A card hand without an ace card is called a Hard Hand as the value of the hand remains the same, because a hand with an ace card can change value between 1 and 11 depending on requirement. A Soft Hand is a hand which has an ace card, thus allowing players to use the value of ace as per their need.
Players have to place a wager before being dealt any cards. Players are assigned a separate place at the table and they have to buy chips from the dealer. The game starts after all players have placed a wager. Each player is dealt two cards face up and the dealer get one card face up and the other face down. Players add cards to reach the number of 21 and they need to take care to avoid busting. Busting refers to when a player’s card exceeds the number of 21, and that player automatically loses the game.
A player who has cards exceeding the value of the dealer’s without going beyond 21 wins the game. If the dealer has cards to the value of 19 then those players who have cards with the value lesser than 19 stand to lose. Those who are able to make a total of 21 with the first two cards win automatically.
